It seems that everywhere you look, events are being cancelled left and right due to precautionary measures taken for COVID-19, at first, it looked as if the Big Ten Basketball tournament might be able to squeeze it in.
On Wednesday, March 11, fans filled the stands cheering on their teams. Later that same day however, it was decided that for the health and safety of the players and the fans, that the rest of the Big Ten games would be played without the cheering in the background (aka no spectators.)
Amid the growing COVID-19 health concerns, this seemed like the best solution at the time. Then the following day, it was announced that the tournament would be cancelled completely.

While most unfortunate for both athletes and fans alike, it’s important to remember that at the heart of sports, the health of everyone is and always should be the most important thing.
The Big Ten is not the only sporting event cancelled either. Games and tournaments across several sports (NFL, MLB, etc.) have also suspended games indefinitely until the current health crisis is contained. Among the continued cancellations of our favorite sports events, just remember, this is only temporary, and hopefully will just make us more appreciative of such events in the future.
So while the seats will remain empty, the love fans share for their teams, and for basketball, will live on.
