What a Nail Biter

Toronto thought they had a goal up on New York yesterday, but that turned out not to be the case when a ref called off-sides on the scoring player. The goal didn’t count. New York ended up with a free kick, and the game started off again!

Later, New York came close to a goal against Toronto with some fancy footwork between players, but in the end, Toronto’s keeper wouldn’t let them past, knocking the ball to his defense who then cleared it out.

Coming down the field with the ball, Toronto managed to get inside the 18, but New York players crowded around. That ball wasn’t going anywhere near their goal. Trying to get out of the swarm, the Toronto player fell over the ball when a New Yorker stepped in to try and poke the ball away. Toronto, hoping for a penalty kick, waited as the main referee went over to the sidelines for the instant replay. He ultimately determined that New York was going for the ball and not the player, so with an indirect kick from Toronto, the game continued on.

A Toronto player ended up with a short breakaway, shooting the ball in the 18, but ricocheted off a New York defensive player. This lined the ball up perfectly for a crashing Toronto forward, who was able to shoot in one touch. Unfortunately for him, the ball hit the cross bar with no follow up from his teammates.

Toronto was hoping to get another play in the 18 with an open forward on the right, but even with a powerful ground shot, all it took was the New York goalie to step in and block it. Still 0-0.

Still in a stalemate, Toronto began shooting every chance they got, regardless of whether or not they had made it into the 18. One player managed to get one off curving towards the upper corner of the goal, but was punched away by the keeper.

In the end, Toronto did manage to put away a goal with an unfortunate assist from a New York defensive player. The game ended 1-0.
